The MDA Show of Strength was an annual televised benefit concert held each Labor Day Weekend in the United States to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The program was the successor to the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, an annual telethon that ran until 2010. In 2011, darkness descended on the telethon, as the duration was cut to 6 hours and Jerry Lewis was no longer the host. The telethon, like Jerry, became a pale ghost of what it once was. And then in 2016, MDA announced they were discontinuing the telethon. In 2017, we lost our beloved Jerry. In 2020, the MDA launched a social media based "telethon" with that hack Kevin Hart, but it will never be the same. As we enter Labor Day Weekend, I ask you to mourn with me. For the telethon. For Jerry. For the kids. For America.
