NWS Boston meteorologists conducting a storm survey have determined that a brief EF1 tornado occurred in Paxton MA with a second brief touchdown in Holden MA also determined to be EF1. Additional EF1 tornadoes were confirmed in the towns of Berlin and Stow as well. The tornadoes were associated with a severe thunderstorm that moved across that area on Saturday September 6. An EF1 tornado is classified as having estimated winds in the 86-110 mph range, although the intensity of the tornadoes in Paxton and Holden are on the lower end of that range. The survey team also examined damage in the towns of Otis and Blandford in western Massachusetts and did not see any evidence of a tornado in those locations. A full summary of the team`s findings including path length, width, and estimated time on ground will be issued early tomorrow after a full review of the data is done.
