BOSTON – A Burlington, Mass. man was convicted yesterday following a three-day jury trial of attempting to send obscene material to an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old girl on Kik messenger. Stephen James Lemelin, 51, was convicted of three counts of attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor. U.S. District Court Judge Patti B. Saris scheduled sentencing for March 26, 2026. Lemelin was arrested and charged in May 2024 and subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2024. Evidence presented at trial established that, over the course of five months, Lemelin – a Burlington High School wrestling coach at the time – sent sexually explicit messages and obscene material over Kik Messenger to an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl. In the messages, Lemelin sent three separate obscene photographs of his genitals to the purported child and proposed meeting in person for sex. The charges of attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor each provide for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case. United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division made the announcement today. Valuable assistance was provided by Customs and Border Protection and the Arlington, Boston, Brookline, Burlington, Salisbury and Winchester Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorneys David G. Tobin and Eric L. Hawkins are prosecuting the case. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the DOJ’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims. CHELMSFORD — Chief Colin Spence reports that the Chelmsford Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. On Friday, Nov. 21, at approximately 1:09 p.m., Chelmsford Police and Fire personnel responded to Groton Road (Route 40), across from the Chelmsford Senior Center, for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, first responders determined that a 71-year-old Chelmsford man had been attempting to cross Groton Road within the marked crosswalk. The pedestrian was struck by a landscape trailer being towed by a white Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck traveling inbound on Groton Road. The operator of the truck immediately stopped, rendered aid and remained on scene as officers arrived. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported by EMS to Lahey Clinic for evaluation and treatment. The victim is in serious but stable condition. The Chelmsford Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded and is conducting a full investigation. At this time, no charges have been filed, and the operator is cooperating fully with investigators. Groton Road was temporarily closed in both directions while officers processed the scene. It has reopened. The Chelmsford Police Department reminds all motorists to exercise caution when approaching crosswalks and areas with pedestrian activity. No additional information is being released at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. If anyone has any further information regarding this accident, please contact Sgt. Matthew Fernald at 978-256-2521, x301.

Dracut MA: A registered sex offender from Dracut has been arrested and charged with unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. Tyler Bullock, 30, was charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Bullock was arrested on Nov. 6, 2025, and is presently detained following an initial appearance in federal court in Boston. According to the charging documents, Bullock was identified as an individual who had, on several occasions, sent money to an India-based network in exchange for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). During a search of Bullock’s residence, Bullock allegedly admitted to soliciting and paying for CSAM. Forensic review of his devices is ongoing. It is further alleged that, during the search of the residence, a Ruger P85 9mm pistol loaded with a magazine that contained several rounds of ammunition as well as a knife bearing the Schutztaffel lightning bolts and a swastika were located in a small safe under a rug in a bedroom. According to court documents, the pistol was reported stolen in transit from New Hampshire to Arizona. It is further alleged that a copy of Mein Kampf and an additional 42 rounds of ammunition were also located in the same bedroom. Additionally, according to the charging documents, a partially assembled rifle was located in an upstairs bedroom along with numerous WWII-era German military medals, patches and memorabilia containing Nazi symbolism. Bullock is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition as a result of a 2016 conviction for the Purchase or Possession of Child Pornography in Lowell District Court, for which he is a registered sex offender. The charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition provides for a sentence of up to 15 years in prison, three of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case. United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Matthew O’Brien, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service made the announcement today. Valuable assistance was provided by the United States Secret Service. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alexandra W. Amrhein and Eric L. Hawkins of the Major Crimes Unit are prosecuting the case. The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Chelmsford Police Department Charges Lawrence Man with Open and Gross Lewdness CHELMSFORD – Chelmsford Police arrested and charged a 32-year-old Lawrence man with exposing himself to customers and staff inside a local business on Friday night. JASON J. RUGGS, age 32, of LAWRENCE, was arrested and charged with: Open and Gross Lewndess Disturbing the Peace Disorderly Conduct On Friday, Nov. 14, at approximately 9:49 a.m., the Chelmsford Police Department was called to a store in the area of 66 Parkhurst Road for a report of a man who was exposing himself. Officers arrived at the scene and learned that an individual later identified as RUGGS exposed himself multiple times to both customers and staff inside of a business. RUGGS fled the area before police arrived. Officers Landon Johnson, Christopher Robinson, and Riley O’Keefe began a search of the area and soon located RUGGS on foot near the Lowell city line. Deputy Chief Gary Hannagan commended the rapid and coordinated efforts of the responding officers, whose actions led to the swift identification, pursuit, and arrest of the suspect. “This was a disturbing incident that understandably caused alarm among employees and customers,” Deputy Chief Hannagan said. “Our officers responded quickly, worked together effectively, and apprehended the suspect without further risk to the public. CHELMSFORD — Local and state officials are investigating an early-morning fire that claimed two people’s lives on Saturday, October 4, 2025, said Chelmsford Fire Chief Gary Ryan, Chelmsford Police Chief Colin Spence, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine, and Middlesex County District Attorney Marian T. Ryan. “This is a very sad day for our community and especially for the two families who lost loved ones,” said Chief Ryan. “On behalf of the Chelmsford Fire Department, I want to extend our heartfelt condolences.” A neighbor reported the fire at 53 Mobile Avenue just after 4:40 a.m. on Saturday. A Chelmsford Fire Department engine company was close by on an unrelated call and arrived on scene moments later to find smoke and flames at the front and rear of the building. A ladder company arrived a short time later. Firefighters immediately made entry to locate occupants and attack the fire. They removed two men, both in their 50s, who were pronounced deceased at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of their deaths. Firefighters brought the fire under control in about half an hour, with no extension to surrounding properties. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Chelmsford Fire Department, Chelmsford Police Department, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. They are supported by the Department of Fire Services’ Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit. Preliminarily, the fire does not appear suspicious. “Investigators found no working smoke alarms at the scene,” said State Fire Marshal Davine. “We can’t stress enough how important smoke alarms are to surviving a fire at home—especially when we’re sleeping. Please take a few minutes today to be sure you and your loved ones are protected.” Any questions regarding the investigation should be directed to the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Chelmsford Police Department Charges Man with 2024 Gunfire at Ice Cream Stand DA’SEAN NORBERT, age 25, of NAHANT, was arrested on a warrant charging him with Discharge of a Firearm within 500 feet of a Building, Willful and Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,200, and Disturbing the Peace. (Photo Courtesy Chelmsford Police Department) CHELMSFORD – As a result of a yearlong investigation, the Chelmsford Police Department has charged a 25-year-old Nahant man with firing several gunshots into an ATM at a local ice cream stand in the summer of 2024. DA’SEAN NORBERT, age 25, of NAHANT, was arrested on a warrant charging him with: 🔹Discharge of a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building 🔹Willful and Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,200 🔹Disturbing the Peace In the early morning hours of May 3, 2024, Chelmsford Police received multiple reports of loud bangs in the area of Sully’s Ice Cream Stand, 55 Graniteville Road. Later in the morning, police located eight spent shell casings in the parking lot of Sully's, as well as damage to an outdoor ATM machine. The ATM machine was struck by gunfire several times, but the compartment containing cash remained undamaged. Chelmsford Police subsequently released video surveillance images of the incident, including a photograph of a suspect and a photograph of a vehicle that the suspect left the area in — a gray Chevrolet Malibu. Chelmsford Police also collected ballistics evidence at the scene and sent that evidence to the State Police Crime Lab. Ballistics evidence was processed by the State Police Crime Lab, and shared with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Investigators, working with the ATF, were able to link the ballistics evidence collected in Chelmsford to a specific firearm. A lengthy investigation subsequently identified NORBERT as the registered owner of the firearm during the time of the incident in Chelmsford. NORBERT was also the registered owner of a Chevrolet Malibu during that timeframe. As a result of the investigation, Chelmsford Police obtained an arrest warrant for NORBERT from Lowell District Court on Wednesday, Sept. 24. On Thursday, Sept. 25, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Nahant Police located NORBERT in their community and took him into custody without incident. NORBERT was arraigned Friday in Lowell District Court, where he was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail. He was also ordered not to possess any dangerous weapons or firearms if he posts bail. His next court date is Nov. 7. Chelmsford Police would like to thank Nahant Police, Providence, RI Police, Massachusetts State Police and the ATF for their assistance with this investigation. These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

(MWS note: I will be renaming this page HOUSE OF ILL FAME first thing Monday morning, and I shall be known as the Keeper) METHUEN — Chief Scott McNamara reports that a lengthy investigation by the Methuen Police Department, prompted by resident complaints, has led the City to close a business and police to charge its manager with human trafficking and deriving support from prostitution. SUPING ZHU, age 38, of FLUSHING, N.Y., was arrested and charged with: 🔹Deriving Support from Prostitution 🔹Keeper of a House of Ill Fame 🔹Trafficking Person for Sexual Servitude On Thursday, Sept. 4, Methuen Police, as a result of a lengthy investigation that included surveillance and undercover operations, obtained a search warrant for Beauty Garden Spa, 5 Wallace St. During the search, police found living quarters for two women in the basement of the commercially-zoned building. Police notified the Methuen Department of Health, Human Services, and Inspections, which immediately ordered the business closed citing “the unlawful habitation of individuals within a commercial premises lacking the requisite residential facilities and accommodations necessary to support lawful occupancy.” Police subsequently located numerous computers, phones and business records that were used in their ongoing investigation, and interviewed two women who were working in the spa. The ongoing investigation led to police obtaining an arrest warrant for ZHU. On Friday, Sept. 26, ZHU was taken into custody without incident on the arrest warrant. ZHU will be arraigned Monday in Lawrence District Court. “This operation marks the first blow in our aggressive campaign to eradicate human trafficking and sexual servitude in Methuen. The Methuen Police Department, standing united with Mayor Beauregard, is sending a clear and unmistakable warning to every nefarious proprietor running these vile operations: we are coming for you, and we will shut down your illegal enterprises with determined action,” said Chief McNamara. “To the ‘johns’ fueling this despicable trade, know this: you are not invisible, and we are targeting you next with the full might of the law. Human trafficking and sexual servitude are not victimless crimes. They exploit the vulnerable, destroy lives, and poison our community. We will relentlessly pursue every perpetrator to ensure they face justice. This is only the beginning, and the Methuen Police Department, backed by our community and law enforcement partners, will not rest until these crimes are eradicated from our city.” “The Department of Health, Human Services, and Inspections reminds the public that commercial spaces are not permitted to be used as residences,” said Director of Public Health Caeli Tegan Zampach. “Living in a business or commercial unit is unsafe, violates municipal and state codes, and will be subject to enforcement.” The Beauty Garden Spa has remained closed since the search warrant was served. Additional charges are possible as an ongoing investigation continues. Chief McNamara recognizes the work of the Methuen Police Detective Division, and thanks the following law enforcement partners for their support and guidance: Lawrence Police Department, Essex County District Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, the Internal Revenue Service, and U.S. Immigrant and Customs Enforcement. “From a policy standpoint, I am declaring war on human trafficking in the City of Methuen,” said Mayor D.J. Beauregard. “We will identify and apprehend traffickers, shut down every business in Methuen that profits from this evil, and hold landlords accountable if they harbor them — we will find you, and we are coming after you next. Methuen has zero tolerance for these terrible crimes in our city. I want to thank the Methuen Police Department and our state and federal law enforcement partners, Director Caeli Tegan Zampach of the Department of Health, Human Services and Inspections, and the concerned residents who made the initial reports for their combined efforts to crack down on the perpetrators of these crimes.” These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

DRACUT — Chief Michael Cunha and the Dracut Fire Department regret to announce that active-duty Firefighter Jacob Martin passed away on Thursday. Firefighter Martin passed away unexpected on Thursday due to a medical condition at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. He was surrounded by family, friends, and brothers and sisters from the Fire Department. He was 32 years old. Firefighter Martin was a 2011 graduate of Greater Lowell Technical High School and a second generation firefighter. His father is retired Dracut Fire Lt. Paul Martin and his uncle is retired Firefighter Marc Martin. Firefighter Martin graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in February of 2023, and joined the department immediately. He is survived by his fiancee, Aislinn Kearns; his parents, Paul and Sheila Martin; a brother Zach; a sister, Angela; and other immediate family. “Firefighter Jake Martin was a true pleasure to be around — laid back, easygoing, and always ready with a smile,” said Chief Cunha. “In his three years with us, he showed a quiet dedication to the job and a real eagerness to learn. He found joy in the little things — whether it was picking up his guitar during downtime at the station or stepping up to join the District 6 Forestry Hand Crew. Jake was part of our family, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to work beside him.” Arrangements will be announced as they become available.

Wild stuff! Public Information Statement National Weather Service Boston/Norton MA 649 PM EDT Mon Sep 8 2025 ...Preliminary Findings From NWS Storm Survey... NWS Boston meteorologists conducting a storm survey have determined that a brief EF1 tornado occurred in Paxton MA with a second brief touchdown in Holden MA also determined to be EF1. Additional EF1 tornadoes were confirmed in the towns of Berlin and Stow as well. The tornadoes were associated with a severe thunderstorm that moved across that area on Saturday September 6. An EF1 tornado is classified as having estimated winds in the 86-110 mph range, although the intensity of the tornadoes in Paxton and Holden are on the lower end of that range. The survey team also examined damage in the towns of Otis and Blandford in western Massachusetts and did not see any evidence of a tornado in those locations. A full summary of the team`s findings including path length, width, and estimated time on ground will be issued early tomorrow after a full review of the data is done.

Lowell MA: A juvenile male has been identified as the individual reported to be brandishing a firearm yesterday in Lowell that prompted a large police response. The firearm, which is confirmed to be an airsoft replica weapon, has been recovered. On September 3, 2025, just before 2:30 PM, the Lowell Police Department received a report of an individual possibly armed with a firearm. Patrol officers immediately responded and began to search the arca. The Lowell Police Department Unmanned Aircraft System (Drone) was deployed as well as the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing. Numerous Police K9s, Massachusetts State Police Troopers, the NEMLEC Swat Tcam, UMass Lowell Police, LNHP Law Enforcement Rangers, the FBI, and ATF also responded to assist. Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigations Bureau initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident while patrol officers continued securing the area throughout the night. "The safety of this city, and its residents and visitors, is our top priority," said Superintendent Greg Hudson, "and the extensive response of personnel and assets by this department and our law enforcement partners was a testament to that commitment. I want to thank all our officers and partners for their brave response as well as our investigators for their diligent investigative work that brought closure to this incident. I would especially like to thank the residents of the affected neighborhood for their cooperation and understanding while this incident unfolded. While the reported firearm in this case was ultimately determined to be an airsoft gun, our community can be certain that, as in this case, the Lowell Police Department will always utilize all available resources until the safety of all involved is assured."

The MDA Show of Strength was an annual televised benefit concert held each Labor Day Weekend in the United States to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The program was the successor to the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, an annual telethon that ran until 2010. In 2011, darkness descended on the telethon, as the duration was cut to 6 hours and Jerry Lewis was no longer the host. The telethon, like Jerry, became a pale ghost of what it once was. And then in 2016, MDA announced they were discontinuing the telethon. In 2017, we lost our beloved Jerry. In 2020, the MDA launched a social media based "telethon" with that hack Kevin Hart, but it will never be the same. As we enter Labor Day Weekend, I ask you to mourn with me. For the telethon. For Jerry. For the kids. For America.

Hurricane Erin is expected to pass well offshore tomorrow, but some fringe effects will be felt in coastal areas of southern New England: * High Surf and Rip Currents High Surf Advisories are in effect into Saturday for most of the MA and RI coastline. Ocean beaches with south-facing exposures are most vulnerable and could see 15-20 foot breaking waves. Water temperatures remain warm and some beachgoers may flock to the waters, which could put more people at risk. Keep in mind that many beaches no longer have lifeguards for this season. Anyone going to view the surf should stay at a safe distance and off jetties or piers. * Significant Beach Erosion Swell from Erin should result in dune and beach erosion on south facing shores late this week, especially on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, as well as South County, RI which have had significant erosion over the past few winters from nor’easters. * Hazardous Marine Conditions on the Coastal Waters Gale Warnings are in effect for most MA and RI coastal waters through Friday. Gale force NE winds could gust as high as 40 kt on the waters near Cape Cod and Nantucket Friday into Saturday with seas of 15-20 feet offshore. Small Craft Advisories in effect for Boston Harbor, Massachusetts Bay and Narragansett Bay. * Minor Coastal Flooding For Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket: Minor coastal flooding (up to one foot deep) is expected in more vulnerable low lying areas near Nantucket Harbor, Edgartown Harbor, Oak Bluffs, and possibly Vineyard Haven around high tide late tonight and again late Friday evening. Rough seas up to 8 feet on Nantucket Sound could also bring debris onto coastal roadways such as Seaview Avenue in Oak Bluffs near the seawall. These seas just outside of Nantucket Harbor could also bring some deeper flooding (1 to 3 feet deep) to some of the lowest lying areas. For South Coastal Rhode Island (including Narragansett Bay) and Massachusetts: Minor coastal flooding (up to one foot deep) is expected in more vulnerable low lying areas around high tide Friday morning and again Friday evening. Large breaking waves of 15-20 feet could bring debris onto coastal roadways around high tide.
